I noticed Sony had a live-chat on their website so I fired off some questions about the Sony AZ1 action camera. Below is the chat:
Please wait while we find a Sony sales associate to assist you…
Welcome to Sony! My name is Bob Satuito and I will be your sales product specialist today. How may I help you?
Bob Satuito: Hello!
Damian: I have some questions about the AZ1
Bob Satuito: Sure!
Damian: Does the sold-separately lens cover of the as100v fit the AZ1?
Bob Satuito: Let me check on that.
Bob Satuito: Still checking. Bear with me, Damian.
Damian: No problem
Bob Satuito: Can you tell me the model number of the lens cover please?
Damian: I see them on ebay are they not made by sony?
Damian: well #s arent showing up in chat
Bob Satuito: I am able to see your numbers, thank you. Numbers are masked for added security during this chat, and are never stored.
Damian: “Sony Action Cam Genuine Accessories Lense Protection A100vr Hard Lens Protector”
Damian: i dont see them on Amazon but they are on ebay and cover the as100v lens when not using the waterproof case, was wondering if the AZ1 lens and holes are the same size
Bob Satuito: I am able to open the link. I am just checking on the specs of it.
Bob Satuito: Hold on.
Damian: ok thanks, maybe its not made by Sony I don’t see it in the acessories on Sony’s site
Bob Satuito: I am not sure about that, Damian, since e-Bay is not an authorized reseller. I suggest that you call our parts and accessories department to check for a genuine lens cover compatible with your new HDR-AZ1 action cam. The number to call is 800 488 7669.
Damian: Ok couple more questions if i can
Bob Satuito: Sure!
Damian: I’m sad to see the AZ1 won’t have a mic jack. The multi/micro usb jack is all that remains, yes? Will that ever get a mic adapter?
Bob Satuito: Let me check.
Damian: Thanks, I’m wondering what “multi” means in multi/micro usb
Bob Satuito: One second.
Bob Satuito: It means you can put multiple USB, Damian.
Bob Satuito: Sending you a link of a sample.
The agent is sending you to https://www.google.com.ph/search?q=Multi/Micro+USB&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=wYcTVNGKHMmi8AWCn4HwBg&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAQ&biw=1280&bih=963.
Bob Satuito: By the way, no mic adapter is possible for the HDR-AZ1.
Damian: Ah ok. And will you be able to power via usb while recording?
Damian: Darn ok
Bob Satuito: No, it’s not possible. Power is only supplied by battery.
Damian: But you can on the AS100v?
Bob Satuito: No. Not really. Same thing with the AS100v, power is only supplied by battery.
Damian: Oh ok. Alright next question. I’m looking at the side by side comparison on sony’s site and it says the AZ1 Imaging sensor Effective Picture Resolution is “11.9 Megapixel Pixel Gross 16.8 million” but on the AS100V it says Picture Resolution is “13,500K… Pixel Gross 18,900K this makes it seem like the AZ1 isn’t as good when I thought they were essentially the same in specs
Bob Satuito: I noticed that. Please know that these two have their own specialties.
Damian: Ok fair enough. I wanted light head-mounted action cam and I realize it’s a different camera than the as100v. Ok final question. I’ve read issues with other brands SDXC card. a: is Sony’s SDXC card the best choice, and is the 40mb/sec xfer of Sony’s 64gb SDXC fast enough for anything the AZ1 Can throw at it?
Bob Satuito: Yes it is. In fact, it is a waterproof memory card. I am using the same cards for my DSLR and I can say that it’s the best.
Damian: k I was wondering as some other brands extreme cards can do 80mb/s
Damian: but as I said I read some issues with other cards
Bob Satuito: I am not sure about that, what I can attest based on personal experience is these cards are good. Tight now, we do not have other cards available except for this one.
Damian: Ok that’s all the questions I can think of at this time, thank you.
