I admit it, I’m Obsessed with the Zacuto Free-N-G. So now that I have a Zacuto EVF I’ve been thinking how to mount it for shooting video. You may have seen a few of my videos showing off various rigs I’ve put together. Well this one is my current obsession. At $1530 there’s no way I’m buying one. Although they’re headquartered here in Chicago, I really should go hold one. I’m sure it’s all kinds of light and superbly made (Shit for $1530 it should be!).
Why do I like this rig so much? It puts your DSLR, Viewfinder, Mic, etc together in a package that is very much like the old shoulder-mounted camcorders. They had everything you needed for video in a compact (sort of) unit. And that’s what the Zacuto Free-N-G is doing a good job duplicating.
See this promo video to see the Zacuto Free-N-G in use (LoL nice hair, dude):
Alright, how to make my own on the cheap. So far I’ve got something going using a combination of my Fotga DP500II Rail Support and this Polaroid Chest Stabilizer (I own the Aputure MagicRig, but the Polaroid is getting better ratings). I had to leave town before I could snap a picture so hold tight, I’ll add one here in a day or so.
