My name is Damian Dodd. I grew up in Maryland, eastern and western. I have a Marketing degree from Towson University. I went on to study at The Portfolio Center in Atlanta Georgia, studying Art Direction. In 1993 I got my first job in Baltimore. After working in New York, Dallas, back in Baltimore, and Louisville I started my freelance career in 2008.
When you’re a one-man advertising agency you really learn a lot. I began doing a lot of event coverage, both photography and video, to push out through social media for my clients. I bought my first DSLR (my 2nd SLR since college) a Canon 60D.
I’m really enjoying photography. There is so much to know and master, especially lighting. Lighting is everything just like in painting.
A year ago my wife and I had our first child. It’s been tough to juggle being a stay-at-home dad with freelance work. I have to look at freelance as a 2nd job, fitting it in late at night. But it makes me feel like a man to contribute something to our families bottom line.
At the beginning of this year I turned a handful of YouTube videos and a LOT of photography research into DSLRnerd. I want to help others getting into digital photography. And I always want to continue to learn this craft.
