In the below video I review the Digital Concepts - Vivitar .45x Wide Angle Camcorder Lens I bought for my Canon Vixia HF M500.
At $22 it is certainly more reasonable than the Canon Wide Angle Lens which sells for $200. Yes there is some distortion on the edges, but it’s really a nice lens for the price.

Nice job. I will def. order it w/ my M500. Have you tried out any filters yet?
Thanks for the compliment and for watching! I have my eye on a Agfa 62mm Lens Hood. Mainly I needed the wide to shoot my videos. The M500 could probably go well with a telephoto lens, as it only has 10x optical zoom.
Not sure why you say it won’t fit on an SLR. The converter just screws into the filter thread on a lens with the correct thread size. I use it on my micro four third cameras.
@ Paul Taylor Ah I was talking about it attaching directly to a SLR, hadn’t thought of using it as a “filter.” Thanks for the info!
No problem. I got the 0.45x Digital Concepts version which looks absolutely identical to yours. I assume one is a rebadge of the other. When used with the 14mm (28mm equivalent) lens on a m43 camera it makes a BIG difference to the field of view. The outer areas are very soft – almost like a lens baby effect. I assume you are not seeing such a big difference due to the much larger crop factor of the video camera?
will this fit on a hf r 306/37 ? if no are there any alternatives?
What sort of hood can be fixed to this wide angle please ?
Thanks !
The end of this wide angle is 62 mm. So just look a hood at that width.
will this fit a canon VIXIA HF R300? I have been looking for a wide angel for mine?
The R300 doesn’t have threads on the lens, so you can’t attach filters. There was a guy on youtube that screwed a GoPro case/lens to his R300, so if you wanted something permanent…
