The price for a new Canon 60D is now $599, due to the upcoming (September) release of the new Canon 70D. (See my post here) I owned this camera for two years and really enjoyed it both for photography and for video. You get higher ISO capabilities than the Rebels plus you get the top screen. The top screen really helps to quickly check settings, rather than having to hit the Q button and look on the back screen.
For video, this crop-sensor body goes great with the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 lens. For photography, because of it’s crop-sensor, any lens millimeter effectively gets multiplied by 1.6. And that’s most beneficial to long zooms (you get extra length!) but not as much for wide angle lenses (you get less wide).
I was looking at a refurbished T3i on eBay for $412 as a backup camera, but I might just have to pop on a new 60D.
