ATR-3350 Lav Mic Unboxing, Review, Etc

September 27th, 2014 Audio Gear, Video 0 comments 36

In this video I unbox and review the Audio Technica ATR-3350 Lav Mic as well as give a good long chat about DSLR audio and microphones. I apologize that I lost the overhead video footage, but I think you’ll get something out of this.

This wired lav mic sounds pretty decent, though it seemed to have a high tinny sound which would need to be cleaned up in post. I also discuss my collection of (mostly Rode) microphones and their uses. And the JuicedLink RM333.

Here’s a list of my mics and why I have them:

Rode NTG-2
Shotgun mic for outdoor use. Uses phantom power or a battery.
Rode M3
Cardioid mic for indoor use (Shotguns aren’t good for indoor use). Uses phantom power or a battery.
Oktava MK-012
Hypercardioid (via capsul) mic for indoor use. Uses phantom power. You can buy other capsules.
Rode VideoMic Pro
Small Shotgun mic for indoor our outdoor use. Battery powered. Normally shotguns aren’t good indoors but this little Rode does ok. This works great plugged directly to my 5Dmk3 with -10db switch and Canon manual audio on +1 from zero level.
Rode Stereo Videomic (Note the newer Rode Stereo Videomic Pro)
A stereo condenser mic for indoor or outdoor use. Battery powered.
